Gear Repair
All SCUBA gear is part of your underwater life support system. It all needs to be periodically serviced and repaired. We can service and repair almost all brands of equipment. (There are a few exceptions, and there are some things that are simply too old.) We can service air use through oxygen equipment. Bring in your item for an accurate evaluation and estimate. Deposit
A deposit is due at the time you drop equipment off for work. This deposit is non-refundable and will be credited towards the final service price of your equipment. The deposit is roughly 50% of the estimated cost of repair.
Cylinders
- Annual Visual Inspection (Air or Nitrox)
- Hydrostatic Testing (Aluminum, Steel or Carbon Fiber)
- Eddy Current Testing (6351-T6 Aluminum)
All cylinders serviced at our shop are Nitrox ready. If a cylinder needs cleaning for Nitrox use, it probably needs cleaning for breathing air use as well. At Tacoma SCUBA we clean every cylinder as if we were going to use it. Oxygen service is also available and costs more because it is much more intensive.
Regulators (Air Service)
We charge based on how many things we work on. Classically a regulator has four things to work on. (1ststage, second stage, octo, and HP swivel) Just about every regulator can be serviced. Sometimes though it is more economical to buy a new one instead of servicing regulators no longer in production. We can service any brand you may desire as long as you are willing to pay the bill. All work is done by certified service technicians. (There may be additional charges for cleaning especially grungy equipment.)
Regulators (Nitrox or Oxygen Service)
Most new regulators come Nitrox ready. Just hook it up and dive. When it comes to Nitrox service, our philosophy is similar to our cylinder servicing. Most regulators serviced by Tacoma SCUBA are ready for Nitrox service. There are a few exceptions, usually when special Nitrox compatible parts are necessary. Labor costs are the same as for air service, parts might be different. Oxygen service however is more expensive, as it is a more intensive process. Bring your regulator in for a quote. (There may be additional charges for cleaning especially grungy equipment.)
BCD (Yearly Inspection and Service)
The BCD is usually the most neglected piece of dive gear. We’ve seen BCDs in terrible repair, the worst one was held together with Aqua Seal and Rescue Tape. Since most divers cannot swim their entire SCUBA system up from the bottom, BCDs should be checked and serviced yearly. Breathable inflators (such as the Air2, or Airsource) fall under the regulator service above.
Drysuits
Drysuit repairs are a very difficult thing to categorize as most repairs have to be custom. We can replace seals, zippers, and boots on most brands of suits. We can patch holes, tears, and abrasions, as well as perform leak checking. Accessory installation is also possible.
